Welcome to NET SMART! Thank you for visiting our on-line home. In recent reports it has been discovered that stroke is the leading cause of permanent disability in adults, and the third leading cause of death in the U.S. This affects over 700,000 Americans each year. Another estimated 300,000 are diagnosed with a high-risk stroke precursor known as transient ischemic attack (TIA). In the face of inadequate preventive services, stroke contributes significantly to healthcare costs. This will increase unless practitioners are prepared to treat and preserve neurological function in emergency situations. This is the central reason why NET SMART was created.
NET SMART (Neurovascular Education and Training in Stroke Management and Acute Reperfusion Therapy) is an on-line educational system offering programs to support the learning needs of advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, clinical staff, and physicians with the aim of improving stroke victim access to acute treatment.
